Prof. Zhang received his B.S. degree from Hebei University in 1984 and PhD degree from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry in 1987. He has been studying on membrane materials and separation processes in Tianjin Polytechnic University for decades. In 2002, he did research on ultrafiltration in Twente University as a visiting scholar. Prof. Zhang was rated as the first level candidate for National Talents Project and the first level candidate for the “131” Talent Project in Tianjin. He is one of the experts obtaining Special Government Allowances of the State Council for his outstanding research in membrane technology.

Prof. Zhang has been working on product development as well as fundamental research, from ultrafiltration / microfiltration membranes to pervaporation membranes and from spiral-wound membranes to hollow fiber membranes. He masters the core membrane technology for wastewater treatment which leads to significant economic and environmental benefits. Recently, Prof. Zhang’ research makes more than 10 scientific results at the national and provincial levels, has more than 100 articles published, and wins 6 patents and 3 provincial or ministerial scientific and technological progress awards.

Research interests: membranes adsorption, graphene membranes, hollow fiber membranes for wastewater treatment and reuse.

Prof. Lin obtained his PhD degree from University of Petroleum in 2008. He undertakes 13 national and provincial projects. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed journal publications. Prof. Lin was rated as the first level candidate for the “131” Talent Project in Tianjin and Provincial Innovative Talents for Science and Technology for his excellent research contribution. His present research is focused primarily in three areas: (1) Specialized membranes under extreme conditions such as polyimide membranes, (2) Pervaporation membrane for organic mixtures separation, and (3) New membranes for bioseparation and ordered membranes.

Xiaoli Ding, PhD, Associate Professor, Tianjin Polytechnic University

Associate Prof. Ding obtained her PhD degree from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics Chinese of Academy Sciences in 2009. She undertakes 2 national projects and has published over 10 papers of high level. Her research area includes membranes for gas separation, membranes for water purification and advanced polymer-based membrane materials.

  

Lizhi Zhao, PhD, Associate Professor, Tianjin Polytechnic University

Associate Prof. Zhao received her PhD degree in Polymer Chemistry and Physics from Nankai University in 2011. She was engaged in the research on block copolymer self-assembly during studying for her degree. She has been working at Tianjin Polytechnic University since July 2011. In 2017, she worked on self-assembly of polyelectrolytes in the University of Akron as a visiting scholar. Associate Prof. Zhao undertakes 2 national and provincial projects and has more than 20 papers published. Her research interests focus on porphyrin-functionalized membrane, membrane optical sensor and layer-by-layer assembly.

  

Hui Ye, PhD, Associate Professor, Tianjin Polytechnic University

Associate Prof. Ye worked on polymeric membrane modification with guidance from Prof. Zhang and received her PhD degree in 2012. She has been working at Tianjin Polytechnic University since she graduated. Associate Prof. Ye undertakes 2 national and provincial projects and her interests include stimuli-responsive smart membrane, membrane chromatography, and mixed matrix membranes for bio-separation.

Dr. Qingping Xin graduated from Tianjin University in 2015 and has been working at state key laboratory of separation membranes and membrane process, Tianjin Polytechnic University since she obtained her PhD Degree from Tianjin University. She undertakes 4 national and provincial projects, and publishes about 30 SCI papers. She was rated as Outstanding Youth Achievement Award of the Beijing Membrane Society for the innovative research. Dr. Xin’s research interests are (1) Preparation of large scale and high efficiency CO2 separation membrane and (2) intelligent desulfurization membrane materials for flue gas application.

  

3. Team information

New Functional Membranes Research Team, founded in 2011, has been working on membrane materials, separation and membrane integrated technology for water treatment, gas separation, emission reduction and bioseparation. For now, there are 5 faculties with doctoral degree in the team. They undertake over 30 research projects, have more than 100 papers of high level published and complete 5 monographs on membranes. The membrane product developed by the team has won the honorary national new product as well as multiple provincial awards. The team offers PhD, post-doctoral and M.S. program in material science, polymer materials, separation membrane, chemical engineering and environmental engineering. 

  

4.Current Research Area

(1) New membrane material and functional membranes: material modification and molecular design, membranes for adsorption, affinity and molecular recognition; graphene membranes and patterned membranes.

(2) New membrane processes and their applications: membrane adsorption process, bioseparation, cleaner production such as desulfuration, large scale production of PES and PVDF hollow fiber membranes, wastewater treatment, wastewater reuse.
